Noise Putty Fun for Halloween

Potty humor is currently really big in this house… So, the boys especially enjoy noise putty for the wonderfully expressive sounds that can be forced out of it.

Usually the ingredients are hanging around the house. The 4 lbs box of Borax I purchased for this purpose about a year ago will probably last until Ash and Jasper have kids of their own.

So, here is the list of ingredients. You will also need two mixing bowls and a spoon.

The recipe can be halved. The following measurements made a bit too much…

  • 16 oz of white glue
  • 16 oz water
  • 2 cup water
  • 3 tsp borax powder
  • food coloring (optional)
  • straws (optional)
  • googly eyes (optional)

Pour 16 oz bottle of glue into bowl. Fill empty bottles of glue with water and add 16 oz to the glue – stir constantly. If you want to add a color, add a few drops of food coloring to this part of the mixture. We added orange for the Halloween touch.

In another bowl, stir together 2 cups of water and 3 tsp of Borax powder until dissolved.

Mix the 2 bowls together, working it with your hands to thoroughly combine. You will be able to tell if it’s done because it forms a really cool gelatinous putty.

To make noises put in a small container, then stick your fingers through the putty and pull them out again. We used plastic popsicle containers.

Ash, being the innovative soul that he is, figured that straws would make a great addition to the sound effects by forcing air into the putty.

Yes, they both found this hysterically funny.

Googly eyes are really fun to push into blobs that have pooled the table.

Ash discovered that if you blow into it, you can make huge brain looking bubbles!

  1. Now that is something my boys would really enjoy. Sania was squirting foam from one of my empty castile soap bottles, filling with water shaking it and running after the dogs of course, then he came to find mama. I wish we had borax,, will be in Miami at the end of the month so will try to get some. I do have a little i use it to kill cockroaches. Beautiful smiles.
